IKEA makes pretty ghost-shaped night lights, but the power cable of these "SPÖKA" is very thin. One children has torn this cable and called Yoctopuce for help. At first, we thought that we would simply fix the power cable but, in the end, we decided to improve this night light by transforming it into a "connected night light" with a Yocto-Color-V2 and a YoctoHub-Wireless-SR.

This week, we are going to tell you how we built an autonomous light beacon based on a Yocto-Color-V2. The idea was to take advantage of the pre-programmed sequences of this module to produce light effects which can be seen from far away.

Not long ago, someone asked us whether Yoctopuce would be interested in creating an ADS-B receiver. We politely declined because we would likely not sell enough of them to cover the development costs. But we suggested that it should be possible to find an already-made receiver and to interface it with Yoctopuce modules. And this week, we prove it...

A classic example of home automation is to remotely manage the heating system of a second home. In Switzerland, many chalets are equipped with heating systems which are managed by a device connected directly on the phone line. Most of these devices work only on an analog line. If you suppress the phone line or switch it to IP telephony, you must change the device. This week, we are going to see how to replace one of these devices with Yoctopuce modules.

It is easy to combine Yoctopuce devices to build a complex system, like Lego bricks. But using micro-USB cables for interconnections is often not adequate to make a robust, compact and professional-grade solution. One possible alternative to USB cables is the use of small wires with 1.27mm connectors, much smaller, which can be soldered on all our devices. Today we are showing a second alternative, which also solves the question of fixing the complete system in a dedicated enclosure.
