This week, Yoctopuce is offering new modules with USB-C connectors: the Yocto-milliVolt-Rx-C and the Yocto-Pressure-C.
The Yocto-MilliVolt-Rx-C
The Yocto-milliVolt-Rx-C is a small voltmeter designed to accurately measure voltages between -1V and 2V with an accuracy in the order of the tens of microvolts. It has a quasi-infinite impedance, i.e. greater than 1000 GΩ, which allows it to measure very "fragile" voltages supplied by very high impedance sources. It can also be used to calculate the consumption of devices operating on direct current by measuring the voltage across a shunt placed on the power supply.
The Yocto-milliVolt-Rx-C is an isolated module: the USB part is electrically isolated from the measuring part, thus avoiding the risk of ground loops that could interfere with your measures. However, please note that this is only a functional isolation and not a safety isolation. Do not use the Yocto-milliVolt-Rx-C on voltages directly connected to the mains.
The Yocto-MilliVolt-Rx-C
The Yocto-milliVolt-Rx-C is identical to the Yocto-milliVolt-Rx-BNC-C, except that it is equipped with a screw terminal block instead of a BNC connector. It's up to you to decide which one is best suited to your application domain.
In terms of price, there is no major change to report: the Yocto-milliVolt-Rx-C costs CHF 52.10, which is 20 cents more than the Micro-B version.
The Yocto-Pressure-C
The Yocto-Pressure-C is a pressure sensor based on the MS5837-30BA sensor from TE Connectivity. You can use it to measure the pressure of both gases and liquids. It allows you to measure pressures up to at least 10 bars, which is the maximum pressure found in a standard compressed air circuit. It is one of the few Yoctopuce modules that includes mechanical parts. These parts are used to keep a 4mm quick connector firmly attached to the module. The 10 bar limitation is due to this mechanical assembly. The Yocto-Pressure-C can also measure the temperature of the gas/liquid it is in contact with.
The Yocto-Pressure-C
The module can easily be split into two parts. This gives you a 2x2cm sensor part that is easy to install in tight spaces and a USB part that you can install close to your control electronics. Like all Yoctopuce sensors, the Yocto-Pressure-C is equipped with a data logger.
When we calculated the price of the Yocto-Pressure-C, we were surprised to find that the price of the MS5837-30BA sensor and some other components used in the module had dropped significantly since 2019. As a reminder, the price of a Yoctopuce module is calculated at launch time as three times its component cost and, barring exceptional cases, is not changed thereafter. The 66% gross margin may seem high to you, but it covers Yoctopuce's operating costs: salaries, rent, insurance, certifications, machine maintenance, and so on. All this to say that we have decided to lower the price of the Yocto-Pressure from CHF 84 to 63 and set the price of the Yocto-Pressure-C at CHF 63.20.
